Skipper
Peter Patterson has been sailing Nova Scotian waters for as long as he can remember, with
many years as skipper under his belt. Peter holds Canadian Coast Guard certifications as
Master, Limited and Master of Minor Waters. He is certified in Marine Emergency Duties,
Seafarers First Aid and Boat Rescue. Peter has held Canadian Yachting Association
certification as an Instructor Evaluator and as a Racing Coach. He has been skipper and
crew on vessels in the Caribbean, has delivered vessels from Atlantic Canada to the
Caribbean and has crossed the Atlantic under sail.
Peter's experience as a sailing instructor and minor hockey coach make him popular with
young passengers. Peter assumed the position of Master in August 1995. Before joining
Elsie Peter owned and operated a custom yacht repair yard with his wife Lois.
Peter's wife Lois often
sails as mate aboard ELSIE. Lois has sailed with Peter both professionally and
recreationally since they met in 1985. A native of Cape Breton, Lois speaks knowingly of
the culture and history of her island and imparts a gentleness to life aboard ship.
Other members of ELSIE's
crew are selected from resort staff. Each possesses particular strengths in hospitality,
culinary art, or environmental knowledge that can be adapted to a particular charter
party.
ELSIE
may be chartered with Skipper only, skipper and mate/cook or skipper, mate and cook.
Guests are invited to participate as little or as much as they desire.
ELSIE's
crew do not smoke on board or in the company of guests.
