Captain Jonathan Spector, American, late twenties

Jonny and Meredith met in 2003 when they were working on sailing yachts in St. Thomas.  Attracted by their shared love for the sea, they fell in love and set about fulfilling their dreams of sailing, entertaining and offering excellent vacations in the Caribbean.  They took charge of a 50’ Beneteau in 2005, chartering with a maximum of 6 guests in the US and British Virgin Islands.  After a very successful year, their hard work was rewarded with the command of a 68’ ketch.

Captain Jonny was born in Orlando, Florida and started sailing with his parents when he was 8 years old.  For the next 10 years he spent school vacations sailing in the Bahamas and the Virgin Islands.  He fell in love with the sea and  the islands.  Jonny enjoys sharing the tranquility of sailing and the beauty of the Caribbean with Conundrum’s guests.  He has a USCG 100 Ton Masters License and 18 years experience in maintaining and repairing every thing on boats.

Chef: Meredith Hester

Chef/First Mate Meredith Hester was born in Springfield, Missouri.  A Communications Studies major, Meredith was bitten by the “travel bug” while studying in Paris and Florence for her minor in Art History from the University of Kansas.  After college, Meredith worked as a financial advisor in California before moving to St. Thomas in 2002.  Her first experience with sailing charters was full management of cruise ship excursions for two day sail yachts.

Meredith has been interested in the culinary arts from a young age and working on sailing yachts sparked her desire to become a charter chef.  She went right to the source, seeking tutelage under Shelly Tucker, a highly regarded charter chef in the Virgin Islands.  Now with five year’s experience in her own galleys, Meredith has become a highly creative chef.  When on vacation themselves, Jonny and Meredith love to get off the beaten path in search of local foods and wines.  Guests will discover intriguing new flavors influenced by this adventurous couple’s travels in Spain, Italy, Chile and Peru.
